Healing Our Planet: Walking the Talk

I am a pretty sedentary person, not one for exercise. I have lost 17 pounds since I started the Paleo  lifestyle, and that is great, but I have at least another 20 to go.accupedo I have been at a standstill for the last three months. The good news is I haven’t gained any of the weight back, I just haven’t been losing any.

What to do? I have two pedometers on my mobile phone. They both encourage me to walk 10,000 steps. How far is that exactly? For the average person that would be five miles. For me it’s three. I am quite tall when I am sitting down, about 5’7″. Standing up, however, I am only 5′ tall. So, I take about two steps to the average person’s one.

This week I have been walking most days. two of those days I actually made my 10,000 steps goal. Next week I’ll go for four. What does this have to do with healing the planet, and walking the talk?

Watch this video and you will see.

So on the first two days I took one plastic grocery bag, and picked up the recyclables around my neighborhood. That was when I realized I was leaving the trash. So I started taking two bags, one for recyclables and one for trash. Each day I would come home with full bags, thus leaving my neighborhood a little cleaner. SeagullDogHorseMan

So not only was I walking my 10,000 steps, but I was bending down, and exercising my body, and I was leaving the planet a little cleaner.

The birds are decomposing, but their stomach contents are not. Plastic is not biodegradable. Here are some suggestions on what you can do to help heal our planet.
