I know I’ve talked about this before, but do you realize that most of what we eat that is prepackaged has really bad stuff in it? I’ve become anal retentive about reading food labels. Not too long ago I was watching an episode of Bones (Mystery in the Meat) where human remains in a school cafeteria’s stew challenge the Jeffersonian team to not only identify the victim and killer, but immerse themselves in the food industry and its cutthroat practices. One of the scenes was a laboratory that produced chemicals that simulated natural flavors in our food. I call these episodes factional—a fictional story based in facts. I seem to be posting mostly desserts lately, but this one is just too good not to post.
In my last post I asked if you know what is in your food. I think the only way you can really know what is in your food is if you make it yourself. I used an example of Ken’s Buttermilk Ranch salad dressing that is full of chemical substitutes (“Natural” milk flavoring instead of milk. Just because it says milk, doesn’t mean the flavoring came from milk). Is it really easier to go to the store to buy a bottle of salad dressing than it is to make your own? Think about it. This is what I had for dinner last night. I love Indian food, so it was only fitting after watching Awake to eat Indian. Click on the pictures for the recipes. Below is my take on it, and it was awesomely delicious. I served it with cauliflower rice.
If you don’t have the spice blends on hand then you can make your own, which is what I did.
We should nourish our bodies with healthy foods
It has taken me awhile, but I have completely weaned myself off of processed food. I have been living the paleo lifestyle since the beginning of the year, and have lost 10 pounds. You may think that 10 pounds is not a lot in 10 months, but it took me several years to become 45 pounds overweight, so I figure it’s going to take me several years to lose that weight. By losing it slowly, I’m guaranteed to that I won’t be going back to old habits. Beside, I am not a spring chicken anymore, and my metabolism is slower. I think of lifestyle as the way you live. I personally am pretty simple in my lifestyle. I own a home, or at least the bank does, and let’s me live in it. My home is small, but suits me perfectly. It’s greatest feature, in my opinion, is the front screened in porch on which I am sitting right now. I don’t really need a lot. Lifestyle also includes your daily diet.
