I was at a Salon this past weekend, where about twelve of us gathered for some lively conversation. The nice thing about this particular Salon is that we are all like minded. One of my friends said, “Be yourself, not what the world wants you to be.” I thought this quote was apt, and fit into my authenticity theme, Who Are You?
I thought I had better check to see if this quote was original, but the closest I could find was from Henry David Thoreau who actually said, “be yourself—not your idea of what you think somebody else’s idea of yourself should be.”
One of my mother’s favorite sayings was, “What would the neighbors think?” I never really understood this. What I do is no business of my neighbors. But, my mother lived her life worried about what others thought of her, and she wasn’t very happy for it.
I’m finding in my old age, that I really don’t worry too much about what I look like to the outside world. I am no longer afraid to leave the house without makeup. I’m okay to be comfortable in my clothing choices when I go to the store. I allow my inner beauty to show, and I feel more authentic.
What other people think of you is none of your business. To be able to live your life to the fullest is a gift, and you cannot do that if you are constantly worried about what others think of you.
It’s important to be happy with yourself.
I made this delicious Salsa Chicken dish last evening for dinner. It’s very simple and easy. Okay, there is cheese in here, so please try to find organic cheese if you plan to cheat on the dairy. I eat about one eighth the dairy I used to, but sometimes I can’t help myself. I’m sure it would be equally delicious without the cheese. It was fine without the sour cream. Please make sure your read the label on the Salsa you use. It should not have sugar or chemicals in it. Also I suggest you make your own taco seasoning.
